Hurricane Sandy East Coast USA

30th Oct 2012

We are all aware of the hurricane threat to the east coast of the US and of the preparations and efforts being made to deal with it. I want to inform you that Inmarsat is actively monitoring satellite traffic over the US east coast as Hurricane Sandy closes in.

All of Inmarsat's services, including maritime safety capabilities, are fully functional, and Inmarsat is optimising satellite resources in the region in preparation to support all rescue and recovery efforts following hurricane hitting landfall.

Inmarsat has suspended all non-essential maintenance and upgrade activities on the parts of its network that support users in this area to ensure maximum system stability. In addition, the team at the Inmarsat Network Operations Centre in London are continuously monitoring the situation, and has introduced enhanced procedures to ensure that the best possible service is provided at such a critical time.

I remind our USA IsatPhone Pro customers preparing for the hurricane about Inmarsat's free test service. The service is ideal for end-users who may not use their satellite phone regularly - such as first responders or people who keep an IsatPhone Pro in a safety kit. Customers can also send a free text to an IsatPhone Pro via Inmarsat and the MGLSAT website.
